The Sharbot Lake Lions

The Lions Club of Sharbot Lake was officially chartered on September 28, 1951. From its earliest days, the original members shared an unwavering desire to serve, whether in our local community, across Canada, or internationally. They lived by their motto, “We Serve,” just as current members continue to do today.

In 2026, the Sharbot Lake Lions Club marks its 75th year of service. As we celebrate this milestone, we continue to look to the past to honour tradition and to the future to embrace progress.

Our membership has grown recently, but sadly, we also lost two of our most influential and respected members in 2025. Dawn Hansen and William Zwier exemplified true Lion spirit and community leadership. We miss their presence and contributions daily. As Lions, however, we know they would want us to continue moving forward, serving with the same dedication they demonstrated. We honour them by doing just that.

The Sharbot Lake Lions sponsor many programs by raising funds through monthly breakfasts, Easter chocolate sales, Christmas cakes and cookies, 50/50 draws, and a very successful dinner and theatre evening, among other initiatives. Some of the organizations and programs we support include Diabetes Canada, GREC bursaries, the Canadian Cancer Society, Guide Dogs, the North and Central Food Bank, Rural Frontenac youth programs, Meals on Wheels, The Salvation Army, Special Olympics, and many more. We could not do this without the generous support of our community.

In addition to organizing our own events, we assist other organizations with their activities. Recently, the Lions supported the Central Frontenac Recreation Committee with their Resolution Run fundraiser held on January 3, 2026, which was a great success. Our president, Steve Newstead, braved the cold to participate in the Polar Plunge in Sharbot Lake in support of the Railway Heritage Society. We have also been asked to assist with the 2026 Parham Fair and have graciously accepted. The Sharbot Lake Lions are always receptive to requests for assistance wherever we can help. After all, our motto is “We Serve.”

Our March events include the Chili Fest and Open Mic at the Royal Canadian Legion in Sharbot Lake on March 21. Register your chili by March 13th by calling 613-279-1129. Judging begins at 12 p.m., and everyone is welcome to participate as a judge. For $5, judges receive four tasting cups. The winning chili will be awarded to the entry with the most points. The Open Mic begins at 1 p.m., so bring your instruments and join us for an afternoon of chilli, music, and community. A cash bar will be available.

Our monthly all-you-can-eat breakfast will be served on March 28th from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Breakfast includes BBQ sausage, scrambled eggs, fluffy pancakes, beans, toast, coffee, tea, and juice. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children. Bring your appetite and join us for a great meal.
