Sharbot Lake Lions Update
The Sharbot Lake Lions Club collects empty beer, wine, and liquor bottles and cans, and this initiative has become one of the club’s largest fundraising efforts. Since its inception in May 2013, your generous donations have totalled $73,342.26, funds that have been reinvested into many local programs and initiatives.
Donations can be dropped off at the blue bottle sheds located at two local waste sites: 10180 Road 38 and 1130 Wemp Road. If, during your spring cleaning, you come across bottles or cans you would like to donate, we would greatly appreciate it. Your generosity truly helps us support our community.
The Lions’ upcoming year is shaping up to be another busy one, with many familiar favourites returning along with a few new additions. Events such as Canada Day Celebrations and Music in the Park will be back once again. After the tremendous success of the Mystery Theatre and Dinner in 2025, it has also been added to our 2026 calendar. Some friendly persuasion may be required to convince Joyce Bigelow and Lynette Whan to once again combine their screenwriting talents to create another gem.
Another exciting addition this year is our involvement with the Parham Fair. The Parham Fair Board has requested our assistance, and we were honoured to accept. It’s a privilege to support such a wonderful and longstanding local tradition.
Our March events kick off with the Chili Fest, which will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 425, located at 1015D Legion Road in Sharbot Lake. Come out this Saturday, March 21st starting at noon and help judge a variety of delicious chilis prepared by local chefs.
Make a day of it and stay for some fantastic local musical talent, with an open mic beginning at 1pm. Sharbot Lake Lion Lesley Merrigan may even take the stage, perhaps alongside her son. You’ll just have to come by and see! A cash bar will also be available.
Of course, our popular All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast will return on Saturday, March 28th and April 25th from 8am-10:30am. Bring your family and friends and enjoy a hearty breakfast featuring fluffy pancakes, scrambled eggs, BBQ sausage, beans, toast, coffee, tea, and juice.
Come for the food, stay for the conversation, and leave knowing you’ve helped support a great cause. Breakfast will be served at Soldiers Memorial Hall, 1107 Garrett Street, Sharbot Lake.
Another new event we’re excited to introduce is “Tree for E-Waste Day.” This will take place on April 18th from 8pm – 12pm at the waste sites on Wemp Road and Olden Park Road.
Anyone who brings their electronic waste to either location will receive a free pine sapling. As an added bonus, anyone who donates bottles or cans to our bottle shed at the Wemp Road site will also receive a free sapling. It’s just another way the Lions help our community grow. Plant a tree and create a lasting memory with your family.
As you can see, we like to keep busy! From time to time, we rely on volunteers from outside the club to help support our events, and we are incredibly grateful for that assistance.
Of course, none of what we do would be possible without the support of our community. You are the reason we sold out of our chocolate Easter bunnies so early this year. Thank you for your continued support.
If you have some extra time and would like to make a difference in your community, why not come out and see what we do and how we do it? Contact any Lion to learn more, or email us at [email protected].

Finally, a special thank you to Conboy’s Maple Syrup for their generous donation of their fabulous product, and to The Frontenac News for helping us spread the word. "
