Sharbot Lake & District Lions April Update

March wrapped up on a high note for the Sharbot Lake and District Lions, with a record-breaking 130 patrons attending our monthly breakfast. These gatherings truly put the spirit and generosity of our community on full display, and it’s always a pleasure to host such a wonderful group.

Our first-ever Chili Fest was also a great success. I had the honour of serving as one of the judges, and choosing a winner was no easy task, every entry was delicious. In the end, Marsha Byron took first place, while Rimpy Kaillon and Bob Teal tied for second. Kevin Merrigan earned the People’s Choice award, proving that good chili and good taste go hand in hand.

The event wasn’t just about the food. Our open mic showcased some incredible local musical talent, with Zack Teal, Lesley, and Kevin Merrigan treating us to lively, toe-tapping, sing-along tunes. Given the success of the day, this event is already slated to return, possibly with a new date and venue, so be sure to check our Facebook page for updates.

April is already shaping up to be another busy month, with plenty of things happening behind the scenes as we prepare for upcoming events. April 18th was our Trees for E-waste initiative which saw good support. The idea, if you missed it, was to bring your E-waste to either the Olden Park or Wemp Road waste site, and you received a free pine sapling. The Wemp Road site saw a large number of old computer monitors turned in, which meant they didn't end up in the landfill, which was what this was all about. This initiative may return next year, but with a twist, watch for updates on our Facebook page.

Of course, our famous breakfast returns on April 25 from 8:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Soldier’s Memorial Hall, 1107 Garrett Street in Sharbot Lake.

Looking ahead to May, we’re excited to introduce another first: our rain barrel promotion. This is one you won’t want to delay on, as quantities and delivery availability are limited. Full details, including product options, pricing, ordering, and pickup information, can be found here: https://rainbarrel.ca/sharbotlakelions/

The Lions proudly support a wide range of initiatives, including GREC bursaries, Diabetes Canada, and Guide Dogs, but we can not do what we do without your help, and we thank you for your continuing support. We’re also committed to helping where it’s needed most, including recent personal contributions to the North and Central Frontenac Food Bank by our members. Our motto, “We Serve,” isn’t just a phrase, it’s something we live by.

Are you looking to make a difference in your community, have some free time and are interested in how the Lions roll? We’d love to hear from you. Reach out to any Lion or email us at [email protected] to get involved.
