L&A Business Awards
Addington Highlands based business had an impressive showing at L&A Business Excellence Awards Gala last Thursday (April 16) in Napanee.
Not only were there nominations, often multiple, in just about every category, when the first few awards were announced, it looked like a northern sweep was in the offing. Aya Leary took the award for Youth Employee of the Year. The next award went to the Land O’Lakes Horticultural Society (AKA Cloyne and District Garden Club) for Community Beautification.

It was near sweep in the customer service category as well. Mama Bear won for home-based customer service, Milligan’s Meats won for medium-sized business customer service, and Northbrook Gas and Variety won for large-business customer service.
Although Addington Highlands businesses did not take home any more awards, there were many nominees from the township on hand, supported by Reeve Tony Fritsch and his wife Gail.
Nominees from AH included: Casey Madigan, Jessica Heyman, and Libberty Armstong in the youth-employee category, Glaeser’s Country Store and Casey Kellar Forestry and Econorent Equipment Rentals and Sales in the Customer Service category, Econorent again in the Employer of Choice category, Friends of Bon Echo and Lakeside Inn Restaurant and Bar in the Hospitality and Tourism category, Milligan’s Meats in the Milestone Award category, Kaladar Station and Mama Bear Micro Bake House in the New Business category, and the KFLA Alzheimers Society in the Social Impact Award category.
The awards gala, which was the 13th annual, was organised and presented by the Lennox and Addington Chamber of Commerce, which is based in Napanee but is active throughout the county.
