Land O’Lakes Lions Club Roar

The word May comes, historically, from the Roman times and the goddess Maia who was associated with fertility, earth, warmth and blooming nature.

In simple words, May has, and still does, represent the beginnings of the new growth. It is the confirmed time of the year that what has been hiding under piles of snow, and shivering in cold will now take full bloom and from there on continue to grow to become our plentiful, full of color and freshness, vegetation.

As for us, members of The Lions Club of Land O’ Lakes, like everyone and everything else, feel like the long-awaited summer events are finally within a few days reach.

Awake. Prepping, running and meeting. We met with our upcoming President, Lynn Lowe, to plan for the new Lions year that starts July 1st. And we are running, full force, with our current President, Sandra Carman, to close the year. What's on the horizon?

The Spring Yard Sale on the 23rd. That will hold, for the first time, a BBQ. All food proceeds will go to the Canada Guide Dogs.

On the 27th we will be listening to the Land O' Lakes Speakers' Forum guest Bruce Lounsbury on the topic of Waste Water Management and how to make sure our lakes are in pristine condition for today and for the future.

May 31st we will gather to listen to our local musicians and possibly take a few spins on the dance floor as part of the popular Music & Friends.

Naturally, Thursday Bingo; Tuesday as well as Friday Euchre are still running in full force. And, just for fun, we are adding Monday Cornhole. We will let you know more about that soon.

What's more? June will bring the Walk for the Guide Dogs, the Farmer's Market, the Toll Road, and a day of full excitement that I will talk more about in the next Roar: The Reveal of the Emergency Preparedness Plan Donor Wall.

Till we meet again in a Roar; put on some bug-repellent spray and get out to your patios, gardens, lakes and allow the May Sun to fill your heart with its warmth, and meet us. I will not set a date today. You have the dates, and we are waiting for you with our usual smile.
