Recycling In The Wind
read, “ A Green Volunteer “ and “ Pitch in 4 Me” in the paper last week. I also pick up garbage and recycle on my road constantly. Recycling is great, but the pollution it causes ,when it’s windy in our neighbourhoods is awful. Before recycling was implemented, our streets never had this problem. The biggest concern was stepping in dog doodoo or someone’s discarded gum. We can’t help the wind, but we can stop what is blowing around. Squish plastic and cans. Put heavy things on top of light things.
South Frontenac Township has purchased nets that go over recycle bins. They are large and can cover more than a regular recycle bin. They have fluorescent green handles for the recycling guys to easily remove and they fasten to the recycling container so they are never lost. Emterra HQ has assured me that they will pick up the recycle bins that have these nets. The cost is $10 and can be purchased at the Township office on Keeley Road. The government is spending billions trying to control the climate. Maybe we each could spend a few dollars to control the pollution in our townships. The people who throw Tim Horton cups and McDonald bags, well that’s another problem l haven’t figured out yet. Wouldn’t it be nice to just go for a walk and listen and look for the birds without always carrying a garbage bag!
