MMLT BioBlitz
The Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust (MMLT) is inviting the public to discover one of its newest protected properties while contributing to citizen science at a community BioBlitz on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Held at the Aird Creek MapleCross Nature Reserve – a 198-acre expanse of rugged wilderness in the heart of the Madawaska Highlands of Frontenac County – the event will bring together nature enthusiasts, researchers from Carleton University, members of local Field Naturalists' Clubs, and curious community members to document the plants, animals, fungi, and other species found on the property.
Participants will explore the reserve's 2 km trail while using iNaturalist, a free biodiversity recording app, to photograph and identify species. The observations collected during the BioBlitz will help document the range of species present on the property and contribute to broader conservation knowledge in the region.
The BioBlitz is open to participants of all ages and experience levels. No prior experience with species identification or iNaturalist is required, and attendees are welcome to participate for as much or as little of the event as they wish. Experienced naturalists and researchers will be available throughout the day to support participants and share their expertise.
The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Aird Creek MapleCross Nature Reserve, located at 2328 Matawatchan Road, North Frontenac, ON. Participation is free, and advance registration is encouraged. For more information and to register, please visit mmlt.ca/events.
MMLT thanks The Hub for sponsoring this event and supporting community engagement with local conservation lands
