Re: South Frontenac Climate Action Plan

Wonderful news! This is a model for surrounding townships.

SF Council committed to dealing with the emergencies caused by the changing climate (heatwaves, droughts, floods, power blackouts) and mentioned the vulnerability of seniors, and the increase of ticks and lake borne diseases as our lakes grow hotter.

Council also committed to lowering their own corporate greenhouse gas emissions, including gradually switching their light duty vehicles over to hybrid or electric if available.

Above all, Council committed to look at all actions in the future through a worsening-climate lens. That shows great wisdom.

One terrific page was "Design and Renovation Guidance" & "Recommended Minimum Requirements." It had a list that homeowners and builders might consider: Energy efficiency; new roofs solar-ready; buildings should plan for excessive stormwater.(eg. permeable driveways.)

The entire Climate Action Plan is an educational blueprint. I urge everyone to read it, and consider what we, ourselves, can do to help as well. We are all in this together.

The local group, Frontenac Citizens for Climate Action, ([email protected]) are very proud of this South Frontenac council, of Strategy Corp, of CAO Louise Fragnito and all the staff who assisted in compiling this document.

We will hold the next elected council up to this standard.

Other regions might study South Frontenac's CAP as they work on their own.
