Dr. Kim Morrison is a Primary Care doctor in Napanee and the Chair of the FlA OHT, an organisation working on coordinating and integrating health care in Kingson, Frontenac and Lennox and Addington. In her presentation to Frontenac County Council, she outlined how the 6 year old organisation is making an impact on the ground.
A few months ago, the FLA OHT was notified that the Ministry of Health is proinding $3.6 million in annual funding towards increasing the capacity of primary care sites in Frontenac County and Lennox and Addington.
At this meeting, she brought some more detail.
The funding will provice a new half-time medical secretary at the Lakelands Family Health Team in Northbrook. It will fund a full time nurse practitioner, and full time registered practical nurses, and a half time medical secretary at the Family Health Team site in Sharbot Lake. It will also fund 2 full time nurse practitioners, 2 full time registered practical nurses, and a full time medical secretary to be shared between the Verona and Sydenham clinics, and the Inverary medical clinic.
The target of these hirings is to connect 2,700 patients to primary care across the region, inlcuding 1,500 in South Frontenac.
Morrison also talked about the impact of the work that Frontenac Communty Paramedics have done with Dr. Aws Amulfleh, to develop a integrated care pathway so that COPD and Heart Failure patients in Kingston and Frontenac County can receive care at home instead of in hospital. She said the progam has cut the number of return visits to hosptal by 35% and cut the number of redmissions by 20%.
Business Retention and Expansion
Council approved a proposal by the Economic Development Department to apply for $12,500 in mathcing funding from the provincial Rural Economic Development (ROD) fund for a Busines Retention and Expansion study that will take place in 2027 should the funding come through. If the grant comes through, the county will provide an additional $12,500 in funding.
K&P Trail northern section cost increase
The cost of constructing the section of the K&P trail northeast of Snow Road to the edge of the Lanark County border has risen from $500,000 to $675,000 and the extra funding will come from county reserves.
K&P Joins the Trans Canada Trail
Council approved a proposal to have the entire K&P Trail in Frontenac county, including the northern section, become part of the Trans Canada Trail network. This puts the Eastern Ontario Rail Trail loop project that Frontenac County has been working on developing with Renfrew, Lanark, and Leeds and Grenville, into the Trans Canada Trail.
