Addington Highlands Council

St. Paul's Lutheran Church

Council received request for a fee waiver for a luncheon on October 4th to mark the closing of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Denbigh.

A letter from Gail Fritsch on behalf of the church, said that the church has been operating continuously since it was established in 1868. Unfortunately, it is suffering the demise similar to Congregations right across our country, and now due to a very small congregation its ability to continue has ended, and it will be having a closing church service on October 04, 2026 followed by a luncheon in the Denbigh Hall around 4pm. It is a sad occasion; however our community has been fortunate to have this Church serve our area for 158 years.”

“It’s unfortunate. I guess its kind of a sign of the times for a lot of the small communities. It’s one of the hallmarks of the village, you know, it’s in the centre, it’s just very unfortunate,” said Counciilor Kirby Thompson of the closing.

“It is very unfortunate, and as you say, a sign of the times. I know for my own little church, it’s always a struggle to stay ahead,” said Councillor Helen Yanch.

Council approved the request.
