Truth & Reconciliation

Chief Doreen Davis, along with band staff and members of the Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation, hosted a community gathering at Sharbot Lake beach to mark the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th.
People came and went throughout the sunny day.
In previous years', a flag raising of the Sharbot Obaadjiwan community flag and Every Child Matters flags has been a way to mark National Day of Truth and Reconciliation in Central Frontenac.
Recently, however, Chief Davis expressed a concern to Central Frontenac Township that flying the flags for one day and then removing them does not sufficiently reflect the meaning and signifigance of the flags.
Other municipalities permanently display local First Nations flags, and at a meeting on September 22, Central Frontenac Council decided to explore suitable options for the year round display of the Shabot Obaadjiwan and Every Child Matters flags.
Township staff have been instructed to work with the Shabot Obaadjiwan to explore appropriate locations and display options for a permanent display.
