Lions Club of Land O’ Lakes Roar
Can you believe it is mid OCTOBER already! I can’t, but the beautiful colors everywhere are sure forcing me to embrace the thought that 2026 is now in its 4th quarter and we are now in the season of Seasons: Thanksgiving, Halloween, Remembrance Day, Christmas & Finally New Year.
At our club we are now running around to make sure all is done in time, all is good and happy for every child, every family, every visitor of the club. So here is a quick run of everything that is going on for the next couple of months:
October 24 will see kids coloring pumpkins and visiting with a witch, and a few hours later that same day, adults will gather to spend a few hours at the make-shift casino at the club. And no worries there, there will be no money loss no matter how high a player bids, because all the money is, funny money. The last Sunday of Oct we will gather around the musicians or sway in our seats or jump to the dance floor as we listen to Music & Friends.
Need we mention the streets that are lined up with our veterans in Flinton, Northbrook, Cloyne and Plevna? And they will remain there past Remembrance Day. Our club has, for many years now, been recognizing Remembrance Day in a special way that differentiates it from the Legions (who put on the most touching ceremonies year after year). Ours we call Remembrance Day Formalities, where every year, Red brings a speaker or a movie for us to watch about the many veterans that have served and guarded our Canada.
Diabetes Tag Day will, as usual, give us a reminder of how important it is to care for one’s health and how to be aware and supportive of individuals in our families and communities who are struggling with Diabetes.
Of course, right after that we move, in full force, into the Christmas Season of the Lions Club of Land O’ Lakes. We start with Santa Claus Parade, Nov 21st, which is an event that drives its success from the preparations and care of the Lions, and, equally important, from the number and creativity of the businesses who decide to create a float and walk the parade. This year, the theme of the parade is Christmas Through the Ages. So, businesses can portray their vision of Christmas in any decade, any century past, current or, yes, even future! We are hoping that we would have fifty floats this year, but, that, naturally, depends on the businesses, so here is a call to all, build the float and join the parade.
Nov 28th many vendors will display their beautiful arts and foods for the community to shop from; making this the perfect event to shop for Christmas while supporting local artisans and brining extra joy to the season of giving.
Yes. Of course. Then comes the long-awaited crazy day were Santa, for some reason, chooses to bring all his elves and the entire workshop to our little club in Northbrook. That is where Christmas takes a magical turn. I am sure you are following the Facebook posts that are reminding us of the storyline, I believe we are now reading Chapter 3. By the time we reach Chapter 5, we might have a bit of an insight on what the elves are planning on this year. Keep watching.
And, for all those wanting more Christmas in their lives, don’t miss the other Christmas events in town by the Flinton Rec Club, the Churches and the businesses. Christmas all around in our vibrant community.
Till we meet again in a Roar, enjoy the leaves, bring in some to decorate your houses, watch the flocks of birds that are migrating, and join us for a night of endless laughter this Saturday at Casino Night.
