FUNtastic Day coming up for Harrowsmith!
St. Paul’s United Church, Harrowsmith will be the setting for a FUNtastic Street Fair and Sale on Saturday, May 7, 9AM – 3PM. It’s going to be a big community event with Church Street closed for the day.
Outside there will be live entertainment starting at 11AM, with Homer Card & Friends kicking things off; noon to 12:30 will be Alex DeWitt, Ava Ludlow and the Sunday School children. At 12:30 Tom McWhinney will perform and then, between 1 and 2, Mark and Sharon Alton will perform.
There will be children’s outdoor games with prizes all day, and face painting too. Jo-Jo the clown will be there and the children can enjoy pony rides between 10am and noon. Cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn and cupcakes will give the fair real carnival feeling. Nominal costs will apply for the games, pony rides and cotton candy, etc. The kids can visit a fire truck parked outside and there will be a delicious BBQ with hotdogs and hamburgers, starting in the late morning. Prior to that people can stop by the “Sit Awhile Café” inside and enjoy a beverage, a sweet, and conversation. Indoor and outdoor plants will also be available for sale.
Inside in the fellowship room there will also be attractions: St. Paul’s famous bake table with an assortment of goodies; a book table of gently used books; a special “gifts for mom table” with handmade/homemade gifts (handmade glycerin soap, earrings, placemats, jams and jellies, homemade Mother’s Day cards and more). There will be a table of “nearly new” goods, a homeopathic silent auction, and a multi-prize draw of goods and services donated by the Harrowsmith community and beyond. The Grandmothers for Africa group will be selling Kazurri jewelry. Upstairs there will be yard sale goods and children’s clothing and toys. There will also be a little area where children can sit and colour or watch a movie while moms and dads shop.
It’s going to be a busy day in little old Harrowsmith. The street fair is a fundraiser for the church, but most of all, it’s going to be a great community event. The outpouring of community support has been tremendous - businesses and individuals have donated time, talents, services, and goods without even thinking twice, and it is wonderful that such community spirit is still alive.
