Sharbot Relay for Life seeks more teams

The return of the Relay for Life to the Parham Ball field is just over two weeks away, and organizers have most everything in place.

The very best in local entertainment, including the Cellar Hounds, HD Supply from Sharbot Lake High School, the Hinchinbrooke School of Rock, and Shawn McCullough and Friends, will be on hand to entertain the overnight walkers, and late night Karaoke will be returning. A brand new canteen is being built at double speed to be in place to provide food throughout the night and participants are being asked to bring their own dishes and cutlery, as the Relay is a Green event.

Luminarias, paper-clad candles that line the track at dusk in tribute to loved ones who have succumbed to cancer, as well as those who have survived the disease, are available for $5 at the Royal Bank in Sharbot Lake and through Frances Smith at 279-3144.

In addition to the costume contests and other activities there will be a silent auction at this year’s relay. Teams from Parham/Tichborne, Sharbot Lake, Harrowsmith, Mountain Grove and Ompah have signed up, but organizers are seeking more participants to help bring the 2011 Sharbot Lake Relay to the level that the events in 2009 and 2008 achieved.

Anyone interested in entering as a team or an individual can call Christine Teal for more information at 613-375-6525 or go to cancer.ca/relay and navigate to Ontario and then Sharbot Lake to register online.
