The Sharbot Lake Farmers Market is set for its first market day on Saturday, June 29th, at its home base at the Sharbot Lake beach.
Market manager Sarah Hannon, from the Rise Farm, said she is happy to confirm that there are 15 full time vendors at the market this season, and that there will be live music every week, as well as special events on most weeks during the market season, which runs until September 28.
Vendors this year include: Whan Farms, Fen Valley Farms, the Rise Farm, Conboy Maple Syrup, the Kingston Pickle Company, Middleton-Neadow Farm, and Winding Road Coffee Company.
“We are seeing continued growth,” said Hannon, “and this year, in addition to the guests we have coming at different times, we are focussing on our farm-to-table weeks.”
On those weeks, a market lunch will be available for purchase, featuring food grown by market vendors.
The farm-to-table BBQs are a good way to sample the flavours from our own farms, and the proceeds help the market as well,” she said.
Those weeks will be the long weekend Saturdays this summer – including the opening Saturday, June 29th , August 3, September 7 and the closing weekend, Sept 28th.
On July 6, a wellness weekend will feature the staff from Sharbot Lake Chiropractic and Wellness, and Harlowe Green will be on hand as well.
The Kingston Frontenac Public Library will be on hand for a story walk on July 13.
On July 20, in conjunction with the Country Music Association of Ontario's Beach Bash, there will be a country music theme to the market, and there will be two tomato tasting weeks in August, this year. Other special events are being lined up for the remaining market days.
