Charges have been laid against the driver of a vehicle that crashed on Burke Settlement Road on May 9th, killing 1 person and injuring 4 others. The 17 year old driver, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charges with 1 count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, and 4 counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm.
The Frontenac Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has now laid charges in connection with a fatal collision in Sharbot Lake.
The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Kingston on October 8, 2024.the
The incident happened around noon on May 9, 2024, when a vehicle left the road and rolled over, striking a tree. A 16-year-old passenger died in the crash, while others in the vehicle suffered serious injuries. The driver and the victims were all students at Granite Ridge Education Centre in Sharbot Lake, leaving the school and local community reeling in its wake.
A boat crash on Bobs Lake, which took place a week later and left three people dead, also had a profound impact on the Frontenac County community. No charges have been laid thus far as the result of that incident.
