The first ever Touch-a-Truck event on October 1 was deemed a success by organizers. Mary Beth Scott, manager of the Early Years Centre in Sharbot Lake, organized the community event as a way to encourage families, especially dads in this case, to get out into the community with their kids. She said the event gave kids (and adults) a rare chance to get up close and personal with various community vehicles and their operators.
Visitors to Touch-a-Truck were invited inside a wide assortment of vehicles, including Central Frontenac fire trucks, the township’s road maintenance vehicles, two military vehicles, a school bus, tow truck, an OPP cruiser, and an EMS ambulance, as well as a shiny, white super stretch limo courtesy of Bermuda's Limo service of Harrowsmith. The event included music by Sound on Sound Productions in Harrowsmith as well as a free BBQ. Over 100 adults and children enjoyed exploring the large vehicles, so much in fact that Mary Beth Scott said it likely won't be the last time Touch-a-Truck is held. “We weren't quite sure what to expect but people came out and loved it so we will definitely be doing this again.”
