County of Frontenac | Sep 21, 2016

Kingston, ON – Anne Marie Young was named Economic Developer of the Year by the Ontario East Economic Development Commission in Kingston today. Young is the Manager of Economic Development for the County of Frontenac.

The award was handed out by Kevin Coleman of the Business Development Bank of Canada at the opening ceremony of the annual Ontario East Municipal Conference at the Ambassador Hotel and Conference Centre.

During the presentation, Coleman praised Young for developing the County’s first-ever brand and recognized her efforts in the development of the K&P Trail. “The trail is a foundation for economic stimulus on which the actions in the County’s Economic Development Implementation Plan are based: to enhance and grow businesses in the catchment area of the K&P Trail,” Coleman said, adding that Young was instrumental in securing half of the funding for the trail from external sources by writing successful grant applications.

Young, who is known for her capability of ‘breaking down silos’, was instrumental in drafting Frontenac County’s Economic Development Implementation Plan and now oversees the implementation of it, supporting the themes of Trips and Trails, Food and Beverage and Recreational Lifestyle.

In order to effectively implement the projects identified in the plan, Young identified that the County was in need of a brand. The brand was developed this past spring and on July 20, 2016 Frontenac County Council launched it to define Frontenac and showcase diversity.

The Economic Developer of the Year award is presented annually to an economic developer based in eastern Ontario who has provided exceptional performance in his or her community and contributed to the advancement of the economic development profession. The Ontario East Economic Development Commission is a regional economic development organization that promotes Eastern Ontario as a prime location for investment and business growth, representing over 200 communities and two million residents
