Frontenac County politicians, staff, and guests gathered last Thursday (November 21) from all corners of the vast county which stretches from the US border to the Mazinaw river watershed in the heart of the Canadian Shield. The occasion was a reception in Sharbot Lake hosted by the out-going 4-time County Warden Frances Smith. In her remarks, Smith pointed out that in her previous one-year terms as warden she had overseen an amalgamation process, dealt with a battle with the City of Kingston over its refusal to pay part of its bill for paramedic and long-term care services, and had to persevere through a pandemic.
“This was a very good year, there was nothing dramatic to deal with,” she said.
As part of the festivities, Smith presented the annual Frontenac County Accessibility award to Tom Carpenter, one of the owners of the Hotel at Wolfe Island, for a series of accessibility upgrades the hotel owners have undertaken since purchasing the 164 year-old Wolfe Island landmark.
