2024 was a year of remarkable events and heartwarming stories in Frontenac. From community triumphs to individual achievements, the region witnessed a tapestry of moments that brought people together and showcased the spirit of resilience and unity.

Community Triumphs

A few of the standout events of the year were the grand opening of the new Southern Frontenac Community Center and Fire Station #8. These state-of-the-art facilities became a renewed hub for residents, offering a wide range of activities and services. The Community Center offers fitness classes, a food bank, and even gardening and is a space for people of all ages to connect, learn, and grow. The fire station is “easily the largest training room that we have in the township. It will be a huge benefit to recruitment in this part of the township and will make it easier to conduct certification programs” quoted Alex Bennett (Interim Fire Chief). The opening ceremony was a significant milestone, attended by local dignitaries and community members who celebrated the culmination of years of planning and hard work.

Environmental Initiatives

Frontenac also made significant strides in environmental conservation. The "Green Frontenac" initiative, launched in early 2024, aimed to promote sustainable practices and protect the region's natural beauty. Volunteers from across the community participated in tree-planting drives, clean-up campaigns, and educational workshops on recycling and composting. The initiative not only enhanced the local environment but also fostered a sense of responsibility and stewardship among residents. Beginning January 2nd, Central Frontenac will implement a new 2 Stream recycling program. Stream 1 is Containers, that include glass, plastics, metal cans, styrofoam, and plastic bags. Stream 2 is Fibers such as milk cartons, juice boxes, paper, and cardboard.

Cultural Celebrations

Cultural events played a vital role in bringing the community together. The annual Frontenac Heritage Festival and Festival of Trees were a highlight, showcasing the rich history and diverse traditions of the region. The festivals featured live music, traditional dances, displays, and culinary delights, drawing visitors from near and far. They were a celebration of the community's heritage and a reminder of the importance of preserving and honoring local traditions.

Individual Achievements

2024 was also a year of notable individual achievements. Local athlete Sarah Thompson made headlines by winning gold at the National Track and Field Championships. Her dedication and perseverance inspired many young athletes in Frontenac to pursue their dreams. Similarly, entrepreneur James Carter received recognition for his innovative startup, which focused on sustainable agriculture, and Becky Williams and Mark McCrady of Maple Ridge Farms won 2024 Business of the Year for Frontenac County.

Acts of Kindness

Amidst the challenges of the year, acts of kindness and generosity shone brightly. The Frontenac Food Bank reported a record number of donations, ensuring that no family went hungry during the holiday season. Community members organized fundraisers, charity events, and support groups to assist those in need. These acts of compassion highlighted the strong sense of community and the willingness of residents to support one another.

Looking Ahead

As 2024 came to a close, the people of Frontenac looked forward to the future with hope and optimism. Plans for new housing projects, educational programs, and community gatherings are already underway. The experiences and lessons of the past year have strengthened the residents' resolve to continue working together for a brighter and more prosperous future.

In conclusion, it was a year of growth, celebration, and resilience for Frontenac. The stories of neighbourhood triumphs, environmental projects, local celebrations, individual successes, and acts of goodwill painted a vivid picture of a region that thrives on unity and progress.
