As the summer settles in, music lovers are set for the festival and concert season. For many that means a trip to Ottawa to see the Foo Fighters at Bluesfest or to see Allison Russel and Charlotte Gardin on the same night, or to Montreal for the Jazz Festival. In Toronto this weekend there is a middle east music and food festival this weekend at Nathan Philips Square. Lots to do everywhere, but those of us who want to remain closer to home, and closer to the lake on hot summer afternoons, there is lots to see and hear as well.

This weekend in Perth the Stewart Park Festival runs from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening, with free concerts in the Park, and small evening shows around town. The lineup is extensive, including New Brunswick's Matt Anderson, Toronto band Kobo Town, Southern Avenue from Memphis, Frander from Sweden, and Kate Weeks, Jennifer Noxon and Christine Graves from Chelsea, Almonte and Ottawa. At the end of the month, the second South Frontenac summer concert is set for Gilmour Point in Battersea with Dewy Roadkill on July 29 at 1pm.

There is also a lineup of music at the Creekside Bar and Grill in Battersea every weekend, which was kicked off with a festival on June 19th. Starting this week, Christopher Jackson is playing on Wednesday nights for the rest of the summer. Check the Creekside Bar and Grill FB page for upcoming shows.

Also at the end of July, the Snow Road Community Hall presents Jon Jones on July 27.

The Blue Skies Music Festival, celebrates its 50th anniversary on the August Long weekend in Clarendon Station with a weekend long lineup of music and workshops. Camping passes are hard to come by for the festival, but day passes are readily available through blueskiesmusicfestival.ca.

This years lineup promises to be one of the most eclectic in years, featuring musicians such as Matis singer songwriter Amanda Rheume, Lenny Gallant from the east coast, and a wide range of Canadian music with roots from around the world, from acts such as Polky (Poland), Ketsmy (Haiti), Janice Jo Lee (Korea), and Medusa (who take their influences from everywhere) and the list goes on from there.

A week later, on August 12, the second annual Beach Bash, sponsored by the Country Music Association of Ontario, will be on at the Sharbot Lake beach. This year the lineup includes: River Town Saints, Dayna Reid, Lemon Cash, and Rosewood Ave. Tickets are available in advance at cmaontario.ca, at Seeds Accounting and other Sharbot Lake locations, and at the beach on the day.

Later in August, the Parham Fair is set for August 19 and 20, featuring music by Carol Flynn, Cayleigh Matson, HoozHear?, Beaver on the Nickel, and the Lowery Mills Band .

South Frontenac’s final summer concert will feature Tyler Brett Parkes at the Point Park in Sydenham on August 19.

In the final weekend of August, the Maberly Fair showcases local fiddle music on August 26, and the Silver Lake Powow is set for August 26 and 27. the Powow features a guest Drum every year.
