I rarely vote Liberal. Twice in my life, so far. Living in a rural Eastern Ontario riding that almost always goes Tory, I've had the freedom to vote with my conscience. This time however, I've a glimmer of hope that voting strategically may be the best bet for cutting down Doug Ford's corrupt Conservative government. Ford pretends to be the people's best friend by luring us in with gimmicks like ‘buck-a-beer’, and bribing us with this latest $200 pre-election vote-grab. It’s a most blatant form of old-school political bribery that’s making a comeback in Canadian politics: vote-buying.
That bribe money works out to roughly $3 billion, and is being paid out to everyone, rich and poor, regardless of income level. At a time when healthcare and education are in deep financial trouble in Ontario, this payout to individuals was careless, and a crass attempt to buy votes. All this does not even include the Greenbelt Scandal in which Ford attempted to rezone and sell off Ontario’s richest farm land to repay his developer cronies for helping him to get elected. This plan was thankfully halted and is now being investigated.
I want a change, and am willing to give my vote strategically to the party with the best chance to defeat the Tories. If you too are unhappy with the status quo, I invite you to do the same in your riding. You can use this tool to discover which party to vote for in each riding, that has the best chance of beating the Tories.
