The heavy snowfalls late last week and on Sunday put a major damper on Frontenac Heritage Festival activities in Central Frontenac last weekend.

Hardy winter enthusiasts made it out to some events early in the weekend, but Sunday was another story, as the heavy snow forced the Polar Plunge in Sharbot Lake to be postponed.

(Editors Note - the date for the Polar Plunge has not been set yet. A previous version of this article indicated the date was this weekend, in error)

The heavy snow had its benefits, however. It was vey much welcomed by tobogganers at the Family Day event at the Frontenac Arena the next day.  A happy crowd enjoyed the outdoor snow, as evidenced by the photo on the right, provided courtesy of  Paul Wash. The indoor ice at the arena grounds provided a break from the cold winter wind.

Up in North Frontenac, organisers of Winterfest, set for this coming Saturday (February 22) at the Clarendon/Miller Hall in Plevna, are hoping for a clear, sunny day, although they will be happy if it turns out to be a few degrees warmer than the Family Day weather was.

The early forecast is pretty good for Saturday, a mix of sun and cloud and a high of -4.

Winterfest events include skating on the Clar/Mil rink, a tug of war competition, outdoor activities, campfire s’mores and hot chocolate, and kids activities. In the hall, there will be turkey bowling, balloon twisting and lunch.

Starting at noon, a new event, North's Frontenac's Got Talent, will take over the hall for the next three hours, as contestants will be competing for a first prize of $500, second prize of $300, and third prize of $200.

All are welcome to free festival, which runs from 11am and 4pm.

Located at 6598 Buckshot Lake Road in Plevna.
