A small group of community members met July 3, to discuss spending the leftover money from the park revitalization fundraiser. While several ideas were mentioned, the one that drew most interest was building a permanent pavilion structure in the park. With only approximately $4,800 in the park bank account, it was decided that different government levels, community members, businesses and organizations be approached to see if there was any interest in proceeding with this larger scale project. Should there not be additional support, it was decided that the money be spent on more modest village beautification ideas, such as flower planters, picnic tables, flags/banners etc. The community is invited to hear the results and next steps at a meeting September 18, 6pm, at The Creek.

Our Community Fish Pick of the week is 11 year old Ivy C!! Trevor and Cathy Owen’s granddaughter was a participant in the July 6th Malcolm Lake Association's Annual Bass Derby & BARBQ. She didn't get a bass, but she did manage to land this hefty 36”, 10-pound pike using her father’s favorite crank bait and braided line. She landed it all on her own, with her father as her net-wingman! Congratulations Ivy!!
If you think you have caught a bragworthy fish this summer and would like to be spotlighted in the Plevna Column, please send me a picture of you with your fish and details about the size and species and where you caught it and with what lure. Thanks in advance for your contribution to our Community Column!
Did you hear about the Butterfly group and the Butterfly Way project with the David Suzuki Foundation? The goal is to support our pollinators by creating a highway of pollinator gardens. This group received a Community Grant from the Township to build a garden at the Plevna hall and school. They finished planting all the native pollinator wildflowers and just have to add a few more rocks and logs to create habitat and then they will add some interpretive signs. It will fill in beautifully in the next year or two. Huge thanks to Mary Ann Ward, Micheline Bessette, Deanne Storey and Pleasantview Lodge's Colin and Julia Drake! Stop in and take a peek and enjoy the view!
If you didn't make it to the Clar-Mill Community Volunteers Strawberry Social BBQ fundraiser and the Annual Craft and Vendor Show at the Hall last Saturday, you missed out! Sharbot Lake
by Greg Rodgers
Who travels through and stays in Sharbot Lake in the high season? We are counting down the top 5 interest groups that stop in Sharbot Lake each summer for 1-2 night stays. Last week we revealed #5 -ATVers. This week #4 - camping grandparents and campers’ parents.
Quite often grandparents visit their families camping in the nearby provincial parks. However, when night falls, they tend to want the creature comforts of a nice B&B. This group along with parents of the 5 or 6 area summer camps (dropping off, picking up, or visiting on parents day) comprise a significant number of visitors to Sharbot Lake. In the past few years, this has included parents travelling in from Chicago, New York, San Diego and and St Kitts Island.
Sharbot Lake - St. Andrew's Breakfast (Wednesdays - Jul-Aug), 7:30-10:30am Wednesdays. St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, 1028 Elizabeth St. Full breakfast, including coffee and/or juice. $12, kids under 12 free. Etransfer available. Every Wednesday in July and August.
Saturday, July 13 Sharbot Lake - Vendors Under the Big Top, 9am-4pm. Sharbot Lake Covered Rink, 14410 Road 38. Lots of great items, proceeds from the table rental will go to support the District #3 Rec Committee. All welcome.
Thursday, July 18 – Frontenac Folk Club & Belong present Le Ren & Farser at Belong Sharbot Lake. Join us for a night of music! 730PM, $25 – tickets at Eventbrite

A huge congrats to the big winner of the Royal a Canadian Legion Branch 496 ATV draw, Pete Redmond won himself a very nice new bike. Thank you to the many supporters who bought tickets, the money raised will stay within our local branch
Also, our Sydenham Lions club held their annual draw which sold out among their places they were selling, a huge roar of congrats to John R Smith who took home the $2500 win.
Slither has regained his spot along the trail beside Foodland for the summer months, with many thanks to those who came out last week to help him off his winter home to summer home. There is one extra special rock, a Rietta Mills original which was placed by her husband at the start of Slither this year… It’s a beauty. As was she. Let’s see if we can add even more rocks this year. Our awesome Home Hardware folks have set up a rock painting station inside the store, for young folks to create. But I’m sure they won’t turn away the young at heart as well. Make a painting party bbq plan with some friends and family…
