Arden
by Brent Fehr
Arden Post Office - The history of postal service in the community dates back to the early 1850's when mail reached Clear Valley via the Salmon River from Napance. It was left at an appointed place on Buck Lake, where it was picked up by David Osborne and taken to his log cabin post office on the west shore of Deep Water Lake (now Big Clear). In 1865, the Post Office Services in Ottawa formally appointed Mr. Osborne postmaster of the village, now called Arden. Later postmasters included G.R. Monds, Flo Pringle, D.H. Alexander, and Charles Parker. During Mr. Parker's service as postmaster the current post office was constructed. Our current postmaster is Cindy Kelsey.

Battersea/Storrington
by Chris Pantrey
Why do birds fly south in the fall? Because it's too far to walk!
Did you know... our current Storrington Public School opened January 3, 1967, replacing 6 area one and two room school houses. The schools that closed were Latimer, Ida Hill, Maple Hill, Cedar Lake, Battersea and Keelerville. A few years later, Sunbury and Inverary schools joined the mix. One of the highlights of the new build, was that it could offer television services offering educational programming!
Park fund update. From the meeting held at the park Wednesday, September 18th, it seems that there is sufficient interest for a pavilion to be built at the park. The thought is that it will be a gathering place for small performances, live music, or for people to gather. Next steps are for some design quick quotes, to get a better idea of costs. There will be another public meeting later in the fall.
Food bank time!! This Friday, September 27th, Storrington Lions Club will be hosting the food drive, from 1-5, benefitting our local food bank. I was at a meeting in the church hall last week, and some of the shelves are quite depleted:( This food drive will cover the Thanksgiving holiday. Be thankful for what you have and help others if you can. Don't like to to shop? Simply etransfer to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Sometimes it does take a village! Imagine what those shelves would look like if every able family in our community donated!
Fear not folks! Kyle did NOT change the name of The Creek to "Nature's Wurst Family Restaurant". LOL! A movie crew, Branded To Films, has been busy in Battersea shooting scenes for their upcoming release, Doom Boogie! Murder and mayhem most foul! If I hear anymore about release dates, or viewing information, I will keep you posted.

Storrington Stinger News! Talk about Stinger Strong! At an early year Limestone District soccer tournament, our Stingers were absolutely outstanding. Our junior girls went undefeated, with 2 wins and 2 ties on their day! And both junior and senior boys were their respective tournament champions! WOW! Way to go Stinger's!! Storrington players and staff want to thank Kyle and staff at The Creekside for fundraising to provide the athletes with new reversible pinnies. Look great, play great, Stinger proud!
This Thursday, September 26th, is the annual Storrington corn roast and open house from 4:30-6:30. This very long standing fall tradition, gives students a chance to show off their new classrooms and families to socialize and get caught up early in this school year!
On Friday, September 27th, Storrington Stinger's will be holding a Terry Fox run, in support of cancer research. Their goal is $1000. Help them surpass that number! Donations can be made at https://schools.terryfox.ca/68155. Tax receipts will be issued directly from the website.

The Arden Legion rocked last Sat (second Saturday of month) with an open mic thanks to organizers Marilyn Tellier and Neil of our area, and many many volunteers. 19 performers played to a crowd of over 50 folks who danced away the afternoon while enjoying cold drinks and hot fries. Set aside Sat. Oct. 12 for the next one and live it up.
We welcome Dr. Richard Weldon to our area and the Land O’Lakes Family Health Team. Hailing from the United Kingdom having studied family medicine, Dr. Weldon enjoys general medical practice and also has an interest in urgent care. We are so happy that he and his family decided to come to our amazing area and offer a warm welcome.
It was fantastic to see Quinn Scott “home” in Henderson putting up posters and doing some measuring for our Henderson United Church & Hall vendor bash of Oct. 5. Quinn, who is part of our Vendor organizing team, grew up in Henderson, now works in animal care and is the Granddaughter of the late Melvin and Betty Scott of Bordenwood, whom we all knew and admired. Quinn is one of many who are helping out and coming home for the Vendor event which we affectionately call “old home day” with many family reunions happening along with plenty of visiting, yummy food, and super vendors. We’ve even got a photo booth for DIY photo opportunities, along with a bake sale, grab ‘n go lunch, and bucket draws. It will be a hoot and a holler!! If you’re from away come and make new friends at our bash. Rain date is Oct. 6 after morning worship.

Whether a hunter or not – if you are in the bush during hunting season good idea to wear orange.
