Transition Storrington presents, The Power of Permaculture, on Saturday, March 8th from 1-3 at the Storrington Centre on 3910 Battersea Rd. Permaculture is a harmonious integration of landscape and people providing their food, energy, shelter and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way. It is based on 3 ethics: Take care of the earth; take care of the people; and return of surplus! Presenter Bob Chambers has been a permaculture designer for 10 years and has designed 3 projects in the region including his own at Edible Forest Farm in Inverary. $5 suggested donation. With spring just around the corner, it is time to get your gardens ready. The Garden Club has an amazing line up of guest speakers! On April 9th – Tauney Stinson will be talking to us about mushrooms and foraging. Her topic is Mushroom Hunters with Loose Morels.
Tauney will be telling us all about the mushrooms that grow in our area, which ones are good to eat and how & when to find them. She may also invite us to join her on her foraging expeditions.
April 26th – 2nd Annual Pitch in for Mother Earth (PI4ME) day – 9am – 1pm, at the Barrie Hall in Cloyne. This is day the Land O’ Lakes Garden Club together with their partners the Lions of Land O’ Lakes invites the community to come out and help them clean up the litter that has accumulated on our road sides and ditches. We will be posting up to date information on our Facebook and Website pages, so please check this out. At the end of the event we will have hot dogs and drinks at the Barrie Hall to thank all for Pitching in for Mother Earth. The Denbigh Recreation Committee invites you to have Brunch with the Easter Bunny and an annual Easter Egg hunt on Saturday, April 19 from 11am until 1pm at the Denbigh Hall 222 Hwy 28. The Denbigh Recreation Spring ATV Poker Run is Saturday April 26, 2025, with registration at Heritage Park from 9 to 11am. Coffee, tea, muffins and donuts will be avail able during registration and Hamburgers and Hotdogs will be available for purchase along the trail. The Vennachar Free Methodist Church is starting a 13 week grief recovery support group. The Griefshare program provides hope and healing after the death of a loved one. Mattawatchan Hall is hosting a Pancake Breakfast with eggs, sausages, baked beans, fruit and local syrup (gluten free is available) on Saturday April 19 from 10am until 12pm at 1677 Frontenac Road in Matawatchan. Adults $10 Youth 6-16 $5 and under 6 is free.

The fools plunge hosted by Kennebec Recreation takes place this Sat. March 29 at 10am at the Arden mill pond, followed by a reception at the Kennebec Hall featuring a raffle on the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey. Young and old are invited to take part, however your old reporter is too old to take the plunge even though I’m very foolish!!
Our own Lorraine Dix celebrated her birthday with spouse Jim playing with the Harlowe Gang and rocking on last Saturday. Great food, music, dancing was the order of the day. Wow!

The use of the Cupboard is intended for everyone in the community.

As mentioned last week, there will be a vendor fair this Saturday (March 29) In Addition to From 10am-2pm at Soldiers Memorial Hall (OSO). Proceeds of this fair support the Aabi tawehii Indigenous Consultancy and Advisory Association New Date for the Polar Plunge: Sunday, March 30 (11am) at the Sharbot Lake Beach. The event is hosted by the Central Frontenac District # 3 Rec Committee with all pledges and donation proceeds going to the North and Central Frontenac food bank and to the Sharbot Lake Pickleball Club.
With sadness, we announce the death of Janet Greenley on Friday, March 21st. Janet was very active in Snow Road Community Centre and at the Snow Road Snowmobile Club. We are so thankful for wonderful shared memories from the years she lived in our neighbourhood. Our sincere condolences to her family and wide circle of friends.
It was another busy morning at the Snowmobile Club on Saturday, March 22nd when we served one hundred and fifty-five. This was a benefit breakfast for the Alzheimer's Society. The funds were split evenly between Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington and Lanark, Leeds and Grenville districts. Both organizations received $868.10. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the cause. Thanks also to Perth Power Sports and Marine for sponsoring the breakfast. The next breakfast on Saturday, April 5th will be a fundraiser for Wheels of Hope.

The SOS (Share Our Skills) workshop coming up on April 1st from 10am to noon will feature local Snow Road artisan Art Hanigan who will demonstrate his skills making high-end knives using local woods. The Girl Guides will be selling cookies in Verona on Monday, April 7 (rain date Monday, April 14). The girls will go door-to door to as many houses as possible from 6pm to 7pm. Any one who lives a bit farther away can come to Trinity United Church from 6pm to 7pm to buy them. Cookies are $6/box.
Bellrock Community Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, April 12 from 9am to 11am. By donations while supplies last. 100% of the proceeds generated support the Bellrock Hall.
