It’s nice to think that every January 1st we can plan a ‘reset’ and set new goals for the upcoming year. But the older we get; it seems the faster time keeps slipping away from us. Therefore, I wonder if each day should be a new beginning, a day to try something new or achieve even the simplest of tasks. I read somewhere that if you make your bed every morning, it can inspire you as you have ‘at least’ completed one thing that day. I normally have a list a mile long that I ‘could’ tackle, and I do juggle (often) more than one thing at a time. So, for my ‘reset’, I have been exploring our local Holistic providers in and around Frontenac County.
I came upon a few of them during the fall Holistic Health Fair and wished I had had more time to chat with each of them. This month, I finally got around to meeting two of them in person, and am looking forward to continuing my path to personal growth, a journey I have been on for the past few decades.
First up, I met with Laura Ireland whose smile drew me in when I first approached her as she sat amongst her beautiful bowls during the Fair. She had a calming effect on me as we spoke briefly about her skills using sound therapy, reiki, and breathwork. I had had one previous experience in this and it was powerful and overwhelming as the ‘gong’ vibration washed over me releasing, what felt like, years of sadness, grief, and heartache. I was amazed at how easily I freed this negative energy and the relief lasted for quite some time.
Laura and I decided to meet again in the new year, and our meeting was held at her home studio (Expressions for the Soul -613-353-2002). It was warm and inviting and as we settled into comfy chairs, she began to ask questions and explain how the various techniques worked. An hour flew by as we covered a variety of topics and then she led me to her sound therapy room that was calming, peaceful, and comfortable. Once my session was over, I headed home for a rest and took some time to reflect and absorb the practice. www.expressionsforthesoul.com
Laura’s offerings include Tuning Fork, Breathwork, Rhythm and Movement, Reiki, Labyrinth, Sound, and Wellness Counselling. She will also be one of the presenters during the Free Taster Evening for ‘Inner Light’ Winter Wellness Workshop Series being held on February 1st at 7 PM at the Sydenham Library. Reservations for this event are required.
The following week I was off to find out more about EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) Tapping. I met with Ellen (Ellie) Steele from Evolution Wellness, and again, she stood out to me when I first wandered through the various practitioners during the Fair. She began as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist in 2002, then became a certified Personal Trainer Specialist, and then a Certified Sports Nutrition Advisor. But when she felt that something was still missing, she added in training to become a Level 3 Reiki and now continues to add to her knowledge with Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and is “the only Canadian to hold an advanced EFT certification through the Association of Energy Psychology”.
After a brief session on Tapping, we wrapped up our meeting, and I headed home to do a bit of homework that she had provided me as I continued along my path of discovery and healing.

If you would like a small sampling of what is being offered in Frontenac County you can attend the ‘Taster’ session to try a bit of each presenter's workshop. There are many wonderful care providers in the area and I look forward to meeting them and exploring the various techniques.
To register for the sample sessions, use this link or find it on Eventbrite.
Take the time to be open to new ideas and turn your blues into renews.
