Perth Road United Church (The Little Church with the Big Heart) presented a cheque for $10,000 to Southern Frontenac Community Services (SFCS) last week, in support of the expansion of the Grace Centre
“This support for the Grace Centre Capital Campaign is vital to the community. The services provided play an important role in our members’ overall well being,” says Vera Shepherd, on behalf of the church.
The donation is generous but it is in keeping with what the church has been doing for a long time.
For over 141 years, Perth Road United Church has raised money for many local charitable organisations. Sometimes money is used to help local families through benevolent fund donations, or through regular food bank donations. The church also supports the Smiles Program that has helped children worldwide with cleft palates to lead normal lives. Church members also regularly collect aluminum cans, which are recycled into grants for Habitat for Humanity building projects.
Abroad, initiatives have included regular support to a foster child in Africa, the Guatemala Stove Project, and assisting two families from Syria under the Save a Family from Syria project.
“Local community donors who share the goal of maintaining a healthy community are key to our ongoing success. We sincerely thank the members of the Perth Road United Church for their contribution and show of support” said Heather Rogers, Executive Director of SFCS.
