Kristin Buckley, started the Scenic Splendor Sanctuary (SSS), a summer day camp, when she decided to expand her home schooling efforts by having other people’s children join them. Kristin says, “After enrolling my kids in school, I asked myself what could I do with this space? I just wanted to honour its beauty, and share my family history because it’s on my grandparent’s farm. My original intention was to have children come and share time with us and now I’ve turned it into a business.”

The SSS will run from 9:00am until 3:00pm, all outdoors, with sports activities, reading, arts and crafts, art workshops, and nature trail walks on the property.

“I just want kids to be outside,” she says, “use their creativity and just play, with kind and adult guidance and supervision. My parents have alpacas, and ducks and can bring in some agricultural education. That’s the service I’m offering for parents who work and need child care. I just want to let kids be kids.”

Kristin added a building in September of 2023 which she calls the Escape Room. She winterised it, and in March of this year, decided to run an escape room over March Break.

Kristin explains, “An escape room is basically puzzles you try to solve to get into, or out of a room and solve its mystery. Friends wanted to rent it for their own groups (writers groups, bible study groups, Yoga classes, etc.)” She adds, “I felt I needed to do something with this building, so I thought of launching it for the public.

There will be opportunities for high school students who need to complete volunteer hours, and to get involved.

Quote from Heather McLurg Murphy: “I took my youth group to the Scenic Splendor Sanctuary Escape Room. We had a mix of all ages and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely. The hosts took us for a lovely walk through farm fields to a calming waterfall. We all agreed we will be returning.

I’m thrilled to hear Kristin is starting summer programs at her property. It is peaceful place. It is a special place to enjoy nature. The staff are professional and trustworthy. Campers will be in very good hands at the Scenic Splendor Sanctuary.”

“For registration, Abby, who I just hired, is helping me and we’ll have an on-line registration form to be completed.” Kristin explains, “It will be based on first come first served people for that week. We’ll email them back to let them know there is a spot for them and complete the registration. There will be a $50 registration fee to hold the spot and then payment in full the week before each camp starts. Registration is now open for all of July.
