This was the first Council meeting held at Storrington Hall; from now on until the completion of (extensive) renovations to the South Frontenac Township Hall and offices, all Township Council and Committee meetings will be held in this facility.
Some adjustments were needed: the meeting began with (promptly solved) problems with the audio, and due perhaps to the size of the hall, the information feed projected at the front of the hall was very difficult for the public to read. (Bring your binoculars!)
The current plan has Council meetings scheduled for each of the first three Tuesday evenings of every month. For several this week, the drive took longer than the meeting.
Budget Schedule Approved
The schedule for the 2025 budget was approved: September 4-October 4 is the period allotted for public engagement.
Frontenac Holistic Health Collective
This group requested and received a grant of $1,000. for their day-long Holistic Fair, to be held at the Storrington Centre on Saturday September 21st. It will feature representatives and information from a variety of health-related services available in South Frontenac.
Fire Prevention Grant
Council approved the Fire Department’s application for a fire prevention grant from the province directed at providing tools and resources to enhance firefighter safety. “What happens if you are not successful?“, asked Mayor Vandewal. “We have allotted funds for this in our budget, in case we don’t get the grant,” answered Fire Chief Blakney.
In response to Vandewal’s comment on the high volume of medical-related calls, Blakney said this was because ambulance services were often more than 15 minutes away from the call. He added that although there was a defibrillator in every fire station, not every emergency response vehicle has one.
Township’s Boat Motor Replacement Approved
“We are having problems starting the current motor,” explained Councillor Leonard. “The replacement makes sense,” said Roberts.
Proposed Fee and Charges Bylaw
Development Services announced they will be bringing a proposal to the next meeting for a consistent set of fees for use of Township services.
The Ice Is In!
Councillor Roberts announced that the Frontenac Arena will have a special opening Friday Sept 13, from 6-8pm.
