Sensei Hamid Nam taught his fifth Self-defence class at the Inverary United Church on Saturday 26 October 2024. As the interest grows, he plans to continue to offer these classes once every three months. After having paid the church hall rental fee, all the remaining proceeds will go to True Patriot Love and Kingston Military Family Resource Centre to help veterans and military families in need.
Hamid is a seventh Dan in Karate and has been practicing Martial Arts for over 47 years. He has been teaching self-defence techniques for over 25 years to civilians and military personnel on different bases in Canada and on deployments overseas with the aim to pass on his knowledge. Hamid is a serving Major in the Canadian Armed Forces and was on two tours in Afghanistan. Hamid has seen firsthand veterans who deal with poverty, homelessness, and PTSD. Since teaching self-defence is his passion he decided to utilize the self-defence classes to raise funds for injured and homeless veterans. He often reminds his students and participants in his self-defence classes that “Knowledge of Self-defence is like having a home insurance. You have it just in case even if you hope that you will not have to use it.” You can check his free instructional videos on YouTube at Sensei Nam Martial Arts and send him an email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
