Holy Cross defeated Sydenham 5-0 in the KASSAA final on Tuesday, in only the second defeat this season for the Golden Eagles. They were shut out 3-0 in the fianl regular season game, also by Holy Cross. Both teams have qualified for the OFSAA tournament in St. Catherines.

The KASSAA (Kingston and Area Secondary School Athletic Association) has reached the playoff stage in Basketball and Volleyball, and the boys football regular season ends with games this week.

In the Boys Volleyball, The Sydenham Golden Eagles Junior team finished with 3 and 8 record, good enough for 10th place, and did not move on to the playoffs, where the top 8 teams qualify for the quarterfinals this week.

The Senior Boys team finished in 6th place with a 5-5 record. They played at Regiopolis on Tuesday afternoon in the quarterfinals. In the regular season, Regiopolis beat SHS 3 sets to 0, in Sydenham.

In girls basketball, the junior Golden Eagles finished the regular season in third place, with a 6-2 record. They beat Lasalle, the team they drew for the quarterfinals, 38-34 in Lasalle during the regular season. At home for the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Sydenham preailed again over Lasalle, setting up a semi-final matchup against the second seeded team from Holy Cross.

In senior girls basketball, the SHS team had a 5-5 record, finishing 5th in the league. Their quarterfinal opponent was Kingston SS, and the game was played on Tuesday at Kingston. When the two teams played in the regular season, Kingston prevailed in a tight 30-27 game in Sydenham. And on Tuesday, it was the Golden Eagles turn to win, in an even closer game, 35-34. Sydenham progressed to the semiinals on November 5th, where they will face the top seeded team from Frontenac SS.

In junior boys football, the final SHS game of the season is a home game against Bayridge on Wednesday evening at 6pm. The Golden Eagles have a 3 and 2 record so far, and Bayridge is 0-3, with one tie in 4 games. The quarterfinals are set for November 6. (All 7 teams in the league will make the playoffs, with the top ranked team in the regular season, receiving a bye into the semi-finals.

In senior boys football, SHS is secure in their playoff hopes with one game to go. They are currently in a 4th place, with a record of 3 wins, two losses, and a tie. They play Bayridge, who are 1 and 4, under the lights at 8pm on Wednesday at the Point Football Field in Sydenham, the final game of the season. They are likely destined for a quarterfinal game on November 6th, at home.
