It has been a busy week in the world of high school sports. Three of the Sydenham Golden Eagle Teams were eliminated in KASSAA playoff action, but a fourth, the senior football team, won their quarterfinal game against Regiopolis, at home, and will play Frontenac on Tuesday (November 12) in the semifinals.
In junior girls basketball action, the Golden Eagles faced Holy Cross, at Holy Cross, in a semi-final matchup. In the regular season, Holy Cross beat SHS by fifteen points, 46-31. And it was a similar story in the semi-finals this week, with Sydenham going down to defeat by a score of 25-13.
The senior girls basketball team were facing an even more difficult path in their semi-final against the top seeded team in the playoffs, Frontenac SS. Frontenac was undefeated coming into the final, winning all 8 of their regular season games, before soundly defeating Mille Iles in the quarterfinals, 69-12. In their regular season meeting, Frontenac rolled over Sydenham 52-16, in Sydenham. And in the semis on Tuesday (November 5) , it was Frontenac 38, Sydenham Golden Eagles 21.

It will only get harder in the next game, however, as Sydenham takes on Frontenac, who were undefeated in the regular season with a 7-0 record. When Sydenham and Frontenac played each other in the first game of the season for both teams on September 20, Frontenac won 26-14. Kickoff time is 4pm on Tuesday (November 12) at CaraCo Field.
The Varsity Field Hockey Team has moved beyond KASSAA for the year, however. They are in Niagara Falls at Ridley College, and the OFSAA (Ontario Federation of Secondary School Athletic Associations) tournament. Round robin action in the tournament starts on Thursday, November 7. The Golden Eagles are in Pool D, and will play three games over two days on Thursday and Friday morning. The top two teams in each pool will advance to the first elimination game on Friday afternoon, and the semifinals and finals will take place on Saturday, November 9.
