Hiker Airlifted

An individual hiking in Frontenac Provincial Park sustained a serious leg injury, requiring medical assistance and evacuation by helicopter.

Around 3:00 pm on December 08, 2024 Kingston Fire dispatch was called to locate and assist for an injured hiker in Frontenac Provincial Park. The hiker had sustained a serious leg injury and required medical assistance. South Frontenac Fire Rescue responded and used the 'What 3 Words' phone application to pinpoint a location in the park on the Slide Lake loop.

The injured hiker was located by South Frontenac Fire Services approximately seven kilometers into the trail. Due to the severity of the injury and the distance from any trail head, Frontenac OPP members assisted the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Center to have a Search and Rescue helicopter from 8 Wing Base - Trenton to airlift the patient out of the park.

The injured individual was taken to hospital, in Kingston, by helicopter at approximately 8:45 pm.

New charges from the Fatal Bobs Lake Boat Crash

Dakota Fillion, who was on board the fishing boat that was involved in a collision with Matthew Splinter’s speedboat on May 18, has been charged for allegedly failing to display the vessel’s lights and for not having enough lifejackets on board.

Fillion is facing the charges related to lighting requirements on power-driven vessels, and charges relating to lifejacket requirements for each person on board.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 13 at the provincial courthouse on Montreal Street in Kingston.

If convicted, Fillion is facing fines for contravening sections under the Canada Shipping Act,
