Catch the Ace is a progressive raffle, and the one that is sponsored by the Lions Club of Land O’ Lakes has been underway since early June, picking up steam week by week.

Each week tickets are sold for the opportunity to select the Ace of Spades from a deck of 52 playing cards which have been hidden in envelopes.

Then, on Sunday, one ticket is drawn. The holder of that ticket automatically wins 20% of that week’s ticket sales. The envelope number indicated on the ticket is opened. If the card inside is not the Ace of Spades, the card is destroyed and is no longer available for future draws. If it is the Ace of Spades, the ticket holder wins the weekly prize plus the ace of spades pot, and the lottery is finished.

Each week the jackpot goes up, by 30% of the weekly sales. and the chances of winning go up as well.

The Lions are selling paper tickets and online tickets are available as well. Tickets will be $5 each. Tickets are sold until Saturdays at noon in person, and until midnight online. The draw takes place on Sundays at 11am at the Lions Hall, 12328 Hwy 41, Northbrook, and the draw is broadcast on the Lions Club of Land O’Lakes Facebook page.

Community partners selling tickets are Petro Canada, Hook’s Castle, Yourway Home Hardware, Milligan’s Meats, The Kuriosity Shop, and Myers Cave Resort.

Online they are available at https://landolakeslions.ca/catch-the-ace/. On that site, there are 52 envelopes, each priced at $5. The playing card that corresponds to each of the envelopes that have already been a weekly winner, is displayed above those cards, which are no longer for sale. Purchasing tickets online is a familiar e-shopping experience, and both Google Pay and credit card payments are accepted.

You can buy any open number, as many times as you like, and if that number is chosen under your name, you win the weekly prize, and if the Ace of Spades then shows up, the jackpot is yours.

The jackpot has reached $5,500 as of August 25. This marks the 8th week of what could be up to a 52 week progressive lottery.

In some locations, Catch the Ace lotteries have run into millions of dollars.

Through the Catch the Ace lottery, the Lions Club of Land O’Lakes will be able to complete the conversion of the Lions Hall to an Emergency Shelter and continue to support the many charitable organizations we have traditionally supported.
