It was a relief for organizers of last weekend's Frontenac Heritage Festival that a fresh coat of snow fell last Thursday night, the temperatures remained seasonal throughout the weekend, and the sun even shone much of the time.
Hundreds of volunteer hours go into organising these kinds of events, especially something like the Frontenac Heritage Festival with many times and locations, and organsesers were hoping it would not turn into a mudfest.
For community members it was a treat to be able to get out and enjoy winter sports, the upgraded skating facilities in Central Frontenac, and to socialise after a particularly grey and joyless patch between New Year's and mid-February this year. A stream of snowmobiles along the K&P trail showed that people are happy to travel around Eastern Ontario in the winter if there is a some fun the be had along the way.
But mostly the events were a chance for local families to get together, eat some food watch the kids play in the snow.
