A plaque has been installed next to the front door of the Sharbot Lake branch of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library, naming it the Marcel Giroux Room.

Giroux’s connection to the Sharbot Lake Library goes back to the founding of the library in 1969. as part of the Frontenac County Public Library system.

With municipal amalgamation in 1998, the Frontenac County and City of Kingston Libraries merged to form the Kingston Frontenac Public Library.

Marcel Giroux was a driving force behind that amalgamation effort because he believed it would improve resources for the branches in Frontenac County, and he became the first Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library, a position he held until 2003.

The plaque that was installed on Monday was made by Rodger MacMunn, and Donna Larocque painted the portrait of Marcel Giroux.

Giroux’s wife Pam, and sons Joel. Christian, Cam, and Marc attended the ribbon cutting on Monday, as did Laura Carter, Chief Librarian (KFPL) Alan Revill, Chair of the Board of Trustees, and Frontenac County Warden Francis Smith.
