Just after polls closed at 9 pm, it was announced that Jordan had won the riding. He celebrated with family and supporters of his campaign, at Boston Pizza in Smith Falls ON.
Jordan said he is relieved and excited to continue his work in Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston.
“I’m excited about continuing the work that we have been doing and continuing to be in my constituency office,” he said. “I am grateful that we can keep the machine running for another four years.”
He is looking forward to the continuation of a majority government.
“I have only worked in a majority and I’ve always thought I’d hate to be on the other side,” he said. “We’re going to get things done.”
Jordan has trust that Doug Ford will continue to be the leader that Ontario needs.
“Ford moves fast and he pivots when there’s kick back and he listens to his caucus,” he said. “When we go out on the ice we’re all shooting on the same net so I think he’s a great coach. He’s a great leader and we have seen that with the threat of tariffs.”
According to Jordan, his first course of action when he returns to Queens Park is to work with the Ministry of the Environment to “push through” on communal water systems and sewage in Frontenac County. He also wants to reduce barriers to creating housing and “making the best use of our land.”
Ethan Campbell was a supporter at Jordan’s celebration. The 24-year-old manual labour worker from Smith Falls had a good feeling about Jordan’s re-election.
“He’s done a pretty good job at MPP so far and I’m excited to see him go back to Toronto,” he said. “He believes the policies of the party and does his best to execute the party’s policies.
“Right now with all of the stuff going on with the States, it’s important to have a strong government so we’re able to combat the best we can.”
“Sometimes with the rural areas, some parties focus more on the bigger cities,” he said. “It will be good to have Jordan at Queen’s Park so he can advocate for not only our rural area but also other rural areas in Ontario.”
While there was an air of celebration in Jordan’s circle, the attitude regarding the election throughout his riding was that of annoyance and disappointment due to the confusion around voting locations and the inconvenience this caused to some residents.
Victoria England is a Sydenham resident and values voting highly, as her democratic right. Throughout her life she has taken great pride in being an active voter, by voting in every election since she was 18. However, this election was different.
“For the first time since I was 18, I did not vote and I’m quite upset about it,” said England.
According to England, a combination of her voter card arriving the day before the election, the location of her polling station and the weather on February 27th, made it impossible for her to vote.
Although she lives in the village of Sydenham, her polling station was in Perth Road Village, a 20-minute drive over a road that only gets maintained by road crews halfway up the road. Due to the heavy precipitation the week prior, and the freezing rain on voting day, England deemed the journey too unsafe to drive and tried to vote in Sydenham. She was turned away because the location on her voting card was in Perth Road Village.
She has raised this issue with Elections Canada, and Elections Ontario, in the past, and has been able to access the polling station in the spring and summer elections, but due to the road conditions during the winter, she was unable to vote.
This, along with other barriers to voting like advanced polling locations being closed due to low staff turnout and polling stations not able to access the supplies they needed in time for the 9 am opening of the polls, made for many complaints about this election throughout Frontenac County.
Detailed election results
Jordan received 22,901 votes, according to unofficial results by Elections Ontario, which is almost 750 more votes than he received in 2022, when he was first elected. But the voter turnout in the LFK riding was a little bit higher in the riding this time around, so Jordan’s share of the vote dropped under the magic 50% mark, to 49.34%. In 2022, he received a bare majority of the votes, with a 50.11% vote share.
In a result that is a good demonstration of what happened across the province, the Liberal candidate Rob Rainer more than doubled the Liberal Party vote count from 2022, when Amanda Pulker-Mok ran under the Liberal banner.
Rainer received 15,560 votes (32.66%) whereas Pulker-Mok received 6962 (15.76%) in 2022.
Most of those votes came at the expense of the NDP.
John MacRae, the NDP candidate this time around, received 4485 votes (10.44%), but in 2022 the NDP candidate Drew Cumpson was supported by 9146 voters (20.7%).
Marlene Spruyt was the Green candidate in both elections. This time, her vote share was down. She received 1552 votes last night, and in 2022 she received more than double that number, 2982 (6.75%).
Wendy Dillistone-Whitaker received 950 votes (2.05%) as the candidate from the Ontario Party, David Motton 682 votes (1.47%) with the True Blue Party, and independent candidate Shane O’Neill received 321 votes (0.69%)
Ric Bresee re-elected in Hastings Lennox and Addington
MPP Ric Bresee was returned in Hastings Lennox and Addington. He received 20,029 votes (48,42%) a margin of 7500 votes over Lynn Rigby, the Liberal Party candidate who received 12,247 votes (29.61%).
Jessica Zielke for the NDP, polled 4734 votes (11.44%). Derek SLoan with the Ontario Party was 4th with 2372 votes (5.73%) and the Green candidate Mike Holbrook was in 5th place with 1338 votes (3.23%).
New Blue Party candidate Glenn Tyrell rounded out the ballot with 645 votes (1.56%)
