Afghanistan - a glass half full

Do you wish to hear some positive stories out of Afghanistan? Canadians for Women in Afghanistan is hosting a Community Appreciation and Information night on Thursday, November 19, in the Resource Center of Frontenac Secondary School, 1789 Bath Road, Kingston, from 6:30 – 9PM. The chapter would like to express its appreciation to our very generous community, who have supported the local campaigns since 2002, sending over $70,000 directly to projects supporting women and children in Afghanistan. To that end, we will be offering presentations featuring selected projects in Afghanistan as well as some background information about the plight of Afghan girls and women. Dessert and coffee/chai tea will be complimentary and there will be free admission. While this event is not a fund-raiser, donations will be gratefully accepted, and attractive gift cards will be available to mark the season. Donations of $25 or more are eligible for an income tax receipt.

It is quite broadly known now that $750 Canadian hires a teacher for a year in Afghanistan, and she will teach 125 - 160 girls in that year, girls who would not otherwise receive any education. This is the life-changing gift that keeps on giving - and doesn’t melt, break into pieces, last a month, or get taken away.
