South Frontenac Museum Society (SFMS) held a lively luncheon membership meeting at Glendower Hall last Friday.
Denise Tipton gave an update on the Past Perfect (PP) cataloguing project now in progress after a long delay in cataloguing caused by Covid. Queen’s senior history student Kayla Benevento is hired by the museum to work with a team of volunteers every Thursday cataloguing items from their storage collection. In the process, she is also teaching museum volunteers to be able to continue to use the PP process with future cataloguing.
John McDougall thanked North Frontenac Little Theatre and the Lansdell brothers for their generous loans of items for the “Roaring Twenties” exhibits. Tipton reported that next year’s exhibits will target school age children with a “Then and Now” focus on common items. (Eg, what came before the cell phone? How do you operate a dial phone, and what came before that?)
Several long-time Museum volunteers will be presented with Ontario Volunteer Service Awards at the Italo-Canadian Hall in Kingston on the evening of October 17: Andy and Jane Adamson, Irene Bauder, Lynn Hutchison, Doug Lovegrove and John McDougall.
Highlight of the meeting was a brainstorm workshop called “Attracting more Visitors” presented by South Frontenac Township’s Executive Assistant and Communications Officer, Laurie Swinton.
This lively, engaging event provided a lot of food for thought including an easily actioned new idea for increasing the Museum’s roadside appeal.
